We’re
seeking a Director, Privacy
APAC - MEA in
our Sydney office. In this role, you
will report to the Privacy Counsel, Director Americas and Global Digital in
continuing to build, implement, update and maintain a world class privacy
program, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Middle East and
Africa (MEA) Regions.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

  • As part of the
    Global Privacy and Information Governance Team, with members in 7 countries,
    you will assist in the implementation of the global privacy program in the APAC
    and MEA Regions, advise the business units on the practical impacts of data
    protection requirements and emerging privacy laws and trends, and on the
    development of solutions, processes and controls frameworks necessary to fulfil
    WU’s privacy obligations.
  • You will be the
    key privacy resource for the APAC and MEA Regions, reviewing products and
    services (including working with WU’s Director Privacy for Global Digital);
    business programmes and projects; business partnerships; marketing and other
    initiatives, to assess their privacy impact on consumers to identify and
    mitigate risk and to support growth.
  • You will assist
    with data incidents and various regulatory matters.
  • Working with our
    global privacy team, you will support the ongoing review and maintenance of
    privacy and consent notices; DPA registrations and notifications; data
    protection and transfer agreements, and generally help to make sure WU complies
    with privacy laws.
  • Additionally, you
    will assist with the global strategy, marketing and communications plan of the
    Global Privacy Office.

Qualifications
and experience:


  • 5-7 years’
    in-house legal experience or experience at a law firm. 
  • Strong experience
    in data protection and privacy in a commercially focused in-house environment.
  • Strong knowledge
    of privacy regulations in the APAC and MEA Regions with experience working in a
    multinational company.
  • 7-10 years’ data
    privacy experience CIPP/Asia Certification or similar strongly preferred.
  • Experience of
    rolling-out privacy related initiatives Experience of dealing with data
    protection authorities.
  • Ability to work
    independently with minimal supervision and as part of a global team that’s not
    co-located.
  • Ability to build
    credibility with senior regional and global management Excellent verbal and
    written communication skills, including confident presentation skills Excellent
    organisational and prioritisation skills and ability to manage complex,
    long-term initiatives.
  • Ability to
    influence and challenge business partners in a constructive and persuasive
    manner. 
  • Ability to
    balance privacy risk with delivering business objectives Ability to arrive at
    creative solutions.
  • Ability to distil
    privacy concepts and requirements into clear recommendations for business
    partners.
  • Since this is a
    truly international company, and we are seeking a person with a truly
    international outlook, who is able to manage a privacy program in multiple
    jurisdictions in a business that is inherently international and cross-border.
  • Strong MS Office
    Suite skills necessary especially MS PowerPoint.
  • Some travel may
    be required, including international travel.
