How Child Support Works in Australia

Child support is calculated using the taxable incomes of parents. But that’s not all you should know. It’s also based on the spending patterns of intact families – strange but true.

You can see an example which shows why higher income parents often pay too much. And we also show how child support encourages parental alienation.

The examples reveal how men can be hard done by. But, the child support scheme also affects women negatively. For example, some women with 50/50 or majority care have to pay child support.
